Stay away Smarkets!!

The makers use bots to follow Betfair exchange odds. Apparently due to the market makers "getting picked off", or in other words beaten by their customers when they know nothing, they varied the commission structure so they charge commission on winning bets and losing bets. Should have invested in better market makers who might be skillful at their ... Read more jobs instead of opting to ruin the exchange for anyone looking to trade full time. An Overview of Smarkets

First founded in 2008, Smarkets is a UK-based betting exchange that allows players to place bets in a wide range of different sports markets, as well as alternative markets such as politics and current affairs.

It is strictly monitored by both the UK Gambling Commission and Malta Gaming Authority, which allows its players to best with peace of mind knowing that their money is safe on the site. Here is our experience of the various betting features available on the site.

Betting Features

Upon logging into the site, it was clear that the site is focused on sports betting, with a significant emphasis on football. The odds provided on the site were given to us in fractions and were very easy to follow. We quickly found some very good odds on Premier League matches, including Liverpool vs Norwich, including 1/3 for a Liverpool win, which was expected given their performance in the league. Alongside the football, we also had the change to place bets on horse racing, tennis, basketball, boxing, cricket, darts, golf, handball, ice hockey, MMA, motorsports, rowing, rugby and snooker.

The markets for each were quite large, with the football market again providing us with a wide range of betting options. These included the half-time/full-time, draw no bet, correct score, both teams to score, number of goals, handicaps, clean sheet markets and many more.

Alongside and in-depth betting market that focused on football, betting on politics was also particularly interesting with a key focus on both Donald Trump and Brexit. Within these niches, we had the opportunity to bet on a range of different outcomes, including who will be the next Labour Party leader, who will be the next Prime Minister as well as betting on the date that Brexit will occur and its after effect

For example, we had the option to bet on odds of 1.88 for the UK and EU to make a deal by the end of 2020. There were also bets regarding the decisions that Donald Trump will make, some of which included Vladimir Putin too. It was clear that this market was extremely popular over the past years, with Smarkets being the ideal site to place such bets.

Betting odds

The betting odds available on the site are absolutely fantastic, with a wide range of odds to choose from, especially when it comes to football markets. Our options included bets on top tournaments such as the Premier League, La Liga, Europa League and Champions League. There was an industry-low commission of 2% on the site, which also allowed us to get the very most out of each win. This is much lower than many other sites within the industry, including the well known Betfair who offer players a 5% commission. Although 3% does not appear to make a significant difference, over time this will build up and in the end will take away a significant amount of your winnings. The football odds themselves were quite good, with odds of  31/19 for Liverpool to beat Chelsea. During our time on the site, we also found some great odds for horse racing which could be found directly on the site just before a race was about to start.

These odds changed as we came closer to each event, which meant that the earlier we bet, the more likely we would secure a great deal. Overall, the odds on the site were very competitive on the market, with a wide number of different markets to choose from on individual sports.

Considering the size of the bookmaker, the in-play market is extremely extensive and fun to play with. We had a wide range of different options to bet on, from Argentina’s Premier Division Football to the French Open’s last set, which provided us with a thrilling number of games and matches to play on. The wide range of in-play options was very extensive, with bets that included which team would score in the first and second half, who would score in the next ten minutes or which team wouldn’t score at all. With so many options to choose from, it was very easy to engage with the market, which provided us with a worthwhile experience. We were able to make bets as we saw the action unfold, with hundreds of sporting events on at any given time, from larger competitions such as the Champions league to smaller Southern American divisions.

The only downside to the in-play markets is that they were not supported by live streaming. This was a shame as the market itself was very exciting. As a result, we would recommend Bet365 when it comes to live streaming. They provide all players with comprehensive, high-quality live streaming services, which help to support the in-game bets that they offer.

Banking Methods- All popular banking methods are covered by smooth transactions

In total, we found seven different banking methods that were available to Smarkets customers, which could be used for both deposits and withdrawals. These included Visa debit, Visa credit, Solo/Maestro, Mastercard/Eurocard, Neteller, Skrill and Bank Transfer. All of these are deposited immediately, apart from bank transfer which can take up to 5 days.

The minimum amount is £20 for deposits, although for withdrawals you must have £20 via bank transfer. During our experience, withdrawals took between 1 and 6 working days and between 5 to 10 days for bank transfers.

Customer service

Smarkets customer service features really excel on the site. They have support on hand 24/7 using the online live chat function. However, players also have the option to speak to a representative in person if they wish by calling +44 207 617 7413 between the hours of 09:00 and 00:00 (GMT). And, if that wasn’t enough, support is also on hand by emailing [email protected] directly. Customer services got back to us within minutes via the live chat and provided us with fast solutions to any problems that we encountered.

Additionally, if we had any questions, there are a range of helpful documents that can be found on the site. These cover everything from the betting exchanges to FAQ’s, ensuring that you understand everything before starting your betting experience on the site.
